\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Enchantment Pond\u00e2\u20ac\u009d outside the De Young Museum in Golden Gate Park.\u00c2\u00a0 It isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t very large but right now a couple of dozen water lilies are blooming.\u00c2\u00a0 I photographed these lilies one day in the sun and one day in the overcast of the fog.\u00c2\u00a0 Both provide lighting pros and cons.<\/p>\n<p>The aim of his large Water Lilies paintings, Monet said, was to supply &#8220;the illusion of an endless whole, of water without horizon or bank.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Monet\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s presentation captures the changing qualities of light while blending the lilies, water and sky into abstraction while seeking to create &#8220;the refuge of a peaceful meditation in the center of a flowering aquarium.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I am choosing to present segments of the pond very realistically.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_237\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a through the water\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s surface to reach the sun,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>offering fragrance and gentle enchantment <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>while making home for bees and dragonflies.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The wisdom of the yellow petals unfolds for those who pass by <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>taking with a simple glance\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 a meditation ready to reside in heart and soul.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A sun lit day provides crisp colorful reflections and an overcast day provides an even light that holds the saturated colors.\u00c2\u00a0 With the sun often comes wind and that means you need a pretty fast shutter speed so your dancing water lily won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t be blurred in your image.\u00c2\u00a0 So the challenge is getting the depth of field you need.<\/p>\n<p>On the over cast day, with practically no wind, I mounted my camera and 100-400 mm lens on my tripod.\u00c2\u00a0 I could use a relatively slow shutter speed to allow for a smaller aperture opening (f\/16 or f\/22..etc.) to get greater depth of field (The water lily and the <a href=\"http:\/\/stacy.awegallery.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Sept4-Turtle-web2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-242\" title=\"Sept4-Turtle web\" src=\"http:\/\/stacy.awegallery.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Sept4-Turtle-web2-300x219.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"219\" srcset=\"http:\/\/stacy.awegallery.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Sept4-Turtle-web2-300x219.jpg 300w, http:\/\/stacy.awegallery.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Sept4-Turtle-web2.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>floating leaves in the pond all in focus).\u00c2\u00a0 When using a long lens remember to use the mirror lock up so the vibration of the shutter doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t cause motion blur.<\/p>\n<p>But if you want to be more Monet like you might want a lot of blur.\u00c2\u00a0 I will try that next time.<\/p>\n<p>And don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t miss
