With the fog gone, the clouds gathering at the coast in the evening hours and a clear horizon, the sky is likely to provide long lasting colors before and after sunset.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_249\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/stacy.awegallery.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Oct2-SunSetSutro1-web.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-249\" class=\"size-full wp-image-249 \" title=\"Oct2-SunSetSutro1 web\" src=\"http:\/\/stacy.awegallery.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Oct2-SunSetSutro1-web.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"256\" srcset=\"http:\/\/stacy.awegallery.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Oct2-SunSetSutro1-web.jpg 500w, http:\/\/stacy.awegallery.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Oct2-SunSetSutro1-web-300x192.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-249\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ocean View from Sutro Baths<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I like to be in place about 30 minutes before sunset.\u00c2\u00a0 Find a scenic view or subject that the setting sun is hitting (opposite or 90 degrees to the sun).\u00c2\u00a0 The intensity of the light brings a new quintessence to your subject.<\/p>\n<p>The sun rises and sets every day as it has for millions of years.\u00c2\u00a0 Yet every time it offers different vistas (photographic possibilities) depending on the time of year, visibility, clouds, temperatures, location, foreground\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6etc.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Once the sun is down we can keep on shooting.\u00c2\u00a0 As Genesis poetically puts it:\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153There was evening and there was morning, day one\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6day two\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and so forth. Often excluding the sun from the sky produces a dramatic presentation.\u00c2\u00a0 You know the light source is there but it doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t dominate the sky. The sky by itself may be spectacular but other elements help make your image unforgettable.\u00c2\u00a0 In the case of the sky over the ocean beyond the Sutru Baths it was the rock island and one single sail boat that were the clinchers!<\/p>\n<p>When metering the post sunset sky I usually under expose one to two stops to make the colors rich and vibrant. I suggest you set your camera on the spot metering mode, select a location about 30 degrees off the sun and take your meter reading.
