{"id":371,"date":"2012-04-02T01:56:12","date_gmt":"2012-04-02T01:56:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stacy.awegallery.com\/?p=371"},"modified":"2013-04-24T23:53:57","modified_gmt":"2013-04-24T23:53:57","slug":"march-week-4-into-the-forest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/stacy.awegallery.com\/?p=371","title":{"rendered":"March Week 4 &#8211; into the forest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The winter rains (yes it is spring now) usually bring the trilliums to bloom under the coastal redwoods in Marin in February.\u00c2\u00a0 But our rains have been late,\u00c2\u00a0 so many trilliums were blooming this past week.\u00c2\u00a0 This flower is a member of the lily family and thrives in the cooler climate of the redwoods. This three-petaled white flower blooms in the spring.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stacy.awegallery.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/March-4-Trilliums-web.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-372\" title=\"March 4 - Trilliums web\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/stacy.awegallery.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/March-4-Trilliums-web.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"http:\/\/stacy.awegallery.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/March-4-Trilliums-web.jpg 500w, http:\/\/stacy.awegallery.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/March-4-Trilliums-web-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a>Having grown up in New York I was accustomed to seeing trilliums in the forest that had broad petals some 3-6 inches long.\u00c2\u00a0 Or maybe they grew larger in my imagination.\u00c2\u00a0 But the coastal trillium blossoms in the Bay Area seem to be quite small with each thin petal about one or two inches long.\u00c2\u00a0 The dew drops on the trillium petals glistened and were like crystals of Tsoygol Latso Water (from India).<\/p>\n<p>As the trilliums under the coastal redwoods begin to fade they seem to go from white to pink to cranberry-ish colors. The day was overcast when I discovered these trillium \u00e2\u20ac\u00a6making the forest dark and dreary.\u00c2\u00a0 But the fog provided perfect even light for forest-floor photography.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_373\" style=\"width: 333px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/stacy.awegallery.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/March-4-Fungus-web.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-373\" class=\"size-full wp-image-373\" title=\"March 4 - Fungus web\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/stacy.awegallery.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/March-4-Fungus-web.jpg\" width=\"323\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"http:\/\/stacy.awegallery.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/March-4-Fungus-web.jpg 323w, http:\/\/stacy.awegallery.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/March-4-Fungus-web-193x300.jpg 193w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 323px) 100vw, 323px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-373\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">polypore and stereum<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I would have needed an extremely slow shutter speed to obtain my desired depth-of-field, which is doable when there is no hint of a breeze.\u00c2\u00a0 Thanks to the Canon macro ring light I did not need a shutter speed slower than 1\/125 of a second.<\/p>\n<p>On the moist forest floor the ferns dance like geisha fans hovering over the fallen tree limbs adorned with mosses and fungus.\u00c2\u00a0 The rust brown colored old redwood branches and cones carpet the soft dirt ground and lightly traveled paths.\u00c2\u00a0 Every inch is a new composition of natural arrangements.<\/p>\n<p>Three petals remind me of all things triune \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Maiden-Mother-Crone, Father-Son-Holy Spirit, Root-Trunk-Branches, Waxing-Full-Waning Moon, Morning, Noon and Night.\u00c2\u00a0 So putting the trillium in a triptych seemed just right.
