\"\"<\/a>Vibrant COLOR is a main theme for the way I see and capture images.\u00c2\u00a0 After using Velvia slide film for so many years I began to \u00e2\u20ac\u0153see\u00e2\u20ac\u009d like that film.\u00c2\u00a0 I continue to seek and pair color and contrast in my work.<\/p>\n

In this \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Touch of Tulip\u00e2\u20ac\u009d the use of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153selective focus\u00e2\u20ac\u009d creates an abstract extraction of stamen and petal. Last week I presented an image of an entire tulip. This week I concentrated on pieces of the tulips.\u00c2\u00a0 Using a 100 mm macro lens I choose a one to one subject.\u00c2\u00a0 That is, the subject exactly the same size as my sensor.\u00c2\u00a0 It is fun to practice finding this size image by setting your macro lens to it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 1:1 setting \u00e2\u20ac\u201c or it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s closest focus, and then moving in to your subject until it comes into focus.\u00c2\u00a0 (or the specific part of the subject).\u00c2\u00a0 Not all close up lenses are 1:1 macros.<\/p>\n

You can achieve a close focus by placing extension tubes between your lens and camera.\u00c2\u00a0 They don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t have any glass and do not magnify your image \u00e2\u20ac\u201c just puts your lens a little closer to your subject.<\/p>\n

Take advantage of the least amount depth of field by opening up your aperture as much as possible.\u00c2\u00a0 My 100 mm\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00c2\u00a0largest aperture (wide open) is 2.8.\u00c2\u00a0 As you can see only a tiny sliver of the tulip is in focus.\u00c2\u00a0 Yellow, Orange and a deep-purple \u00e2\u20ac\u201c almost velvet black are the only colors.\u00c2\u00a0 Less is more.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t need to know that this is even a tulip to experience its soul!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Photography is painting with light\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 so paint away!<\/p>\n

Color also pops when early morning light illuminates a subject.\u00c2\u00a0 Although I found these boats and the Golden Gate Bride a busy subject the brilliant color from the reflection to the top of the bridge holds my interest.\u00c2\u00a0 Get up and out early in the morning.\u00c2\u00a0 Thanks to day light savings that is not as early for the next couple of weeks.<\/p>\n

This small yacht club is in Marin, the North side of the Golden Gate Bridge near the \u00c2\u00a0Coast Guard Station and the Discovery Museum.\u00c2\u00a0 It is a lovely area to often see the bridge reflected.\u00c2\u00a0 You approach from the East Road on your way into Sausalito \u00e2\u20ac\u201c if you are not familiar with the area.<\/p>\n

Although insolating the reflections in the water might make for a stronger picture I can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t resist including the bridge.\u00c2\u00a0 This is the north tower and the best sun light is now hitting it between 7:30 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c 9:00 AM.\u00c2\u00a0 You will even find a few harbor seals and western grebes and a couple of Canadian Geese here.<\/p>\n

If the sun is not directly behind you remember to use your polarizer \u00e2\u20ac\u201c it also helps poop the colors!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
